Check out this article from the Washington Post re: Naperville, IL.  They have a really stringent Phy Ed program which has been cited as one of the primary causes of their performance in the Third International Mathematics and Science Study-Repeat (1999 TIMSS-R).  Naperville entered as its own &quot;country&quot; and finished first in Science and 6th in Mathematics while competing against the world powers in these types of competitions (east Asia). 
 
Interesting connection between physical fitness and performance in the classroom.
